If you're the adventure type, helmet cameras can help you capture all those daring feats easily for motocross, flying, ATV, road racing, kayaking, skydiving, cycling, snowboarding, karting, and other adrenalin-pumping sports.  Helmet cams give you the capability to record every moment of the action without depending on an outside cameraperson. These action video cameras are popular with television and movie recordings as well as daredevil athletes, and now you can record your feats just like the pros! You can show the recording to your friends, and they can imagine being there with you on every twist and turn. What is a Helmet Camera?  A helmet camera, otherwise known as a micro video camera, bullet camera, or lipstick camera, is a camera attached to a helmet allowing someone to make a visual record from their point of view, while keeping their hands and vision free. It can also be used for more relaxed sports such as fishing, golf, hiking, and biking. Helmet cameras are also called helmet cam, bullet cam or bullet camera, lipstick cam or lipstick camera (resembles a tube of lipstick), or wireless helmet camera. A helmet camera works in conjunction with a DVR (DVD video recorder) and can be played back again and again for your enjoyment. History Helmet cameras started as bulky, full-sized video and still cameras that were bolted onto the helmet of skydivers. These would record to analog tapes or film. With the advent of digital cameras, and smaller camera production, came advancement in the helmet camera field. Helmet cameras shrunk in size to that of a marker and began recording to digital recorders with video displays. In the 1990s, helmet cameras were briefly used to provide live player's-eye-view footage in professional American football. However, their use was discontinued after players complained of the extra weight, and TV networks became concerned about the aggressive behavior the cameras captured. The newest generation of helmet cameras offer features like on screen menus, and wireless transmitting to an offsite recording device. Benefits of Helmet Cams • Be able to relive every run you ride like you were there again • You can share your experience with friends • Allows you to film while concentrating on the more important things, like that two meter step-down that’s rapidly approaching… • Lets you film in conditions or situations that would be dangerous to your exposed camcorder • Leaves your hands free to do whatever you need to do with them… • Lets you film the person in front/behind you for extended periods of time when riding. Tips for Using Helmet Cameras Once you buy a helmet camera, take time to study on how to use it properly. Be sure the helmet cam has been properly secured before starting your activity. High speeds, bumps, and falls can cause the helmet camera to become lost or broken if you don't secure it properly. The camera's cable should also be secured so that it doesn't flap in the wind. Take quick breaks to check the lens to make sure it's clean if you're out on the road or in the dirt, water, or mud. Also, be sure the camera is actually recording before getting started! During extreme sports, you can be the star every time with an amazing helmet camera! Market  There are currently a large number of global vendors selling helmet cameras. The majority of these are small lipstick-shaped security cameras. They were designed for low-light security situations, not video fidelity. These lipstick cameras are connected to a video recording device with video input capability, such as a handheld camcorder. Most of the cameras require their own power sources as well, however there are new recorders that have the ability to power the camera eliminating the additional power supply. Many sports enthusiasts now use helmet cameras to capture the essence of the sports they love. For example, many paraglider pilots like to carry a bullet camera to record their flights. This can be mounted on the helmet, foot or elsewhere to capture unique camera angles. There are many samples of helmet camera videos available on the net. Wearing helmet cameras is also proving popular with cyclists as a safety aid as it allows cyclists to record their journeys and to record any incidents from their point of view. This recording can be used in a court as evidence.
